Daytime roadworks along Nelson Mandela Boulevard this weekend

The ongoing roadworks on the inbound and outbound carriageways of Nelson Mandela Boulevard between Hertzog Boulevard and the Father John Oliver footbridge in the Foreshore will be undertaken during day time hours this long weekend. The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be doing this work between 08:00 and 17:00 from this Saturday, 14 June 2025 until Monday 16 June 2025. Kerbing, replacement of bridge joints and line marking will continue at night from Monday, 16 June 2025 until Monday 30 June 2025 between 19:30 and 05:00.

‘This is quite a busy stretch of road, hence this work has been carried out at night to ensure minimal impact on road users during the day. This weekend, however, the project will be done during the day and I would like to advise road users of partial lane closures and plan their travelling with this in mind. The project forms part of the City’s regular road maintenance schedule that seeks to ensure that we keep Cape Town moving on good quality roads,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The work involves removal of the existing road surface and resurfacing it. Replacing missing or damaged kerbs and sealing cracks. Old, damaged or missing guard rails will also be repaired or replaced.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes where possible to minimise delays. For motorist traveling into town, it would be advisable to use the M5 and FW de Klerk (N1) as an alternative.
Once the project is completed, new retro-reflective road markings will be applied to improve road safety and visibility.
